Night Vision is a photo-based project for which I transformed a small waterfall into a studio at night, embracing the chance outcomes that stem from working with flowing water in the dark. To create this work, I submerged light-sensitive photographic paper into a waterfall in Annandale-on-Hudson River. Using a flashlight, I then exposed successive sections of this 14.20 meters roll of paper, unrolling at one end and rolling it up at the other, until all had been exposed. 

My process required me to work in total darkness. In preparation, I made nightly visits to the woods, pushing past my discomfort. Unable to rely of my vision, I gradually honed my sentiviety to touch. Transporting the exposed paper to the darkroom also took care, as it remained light-sensitive until processed with traditional darkroom chemicals. 

I presented the final work by suspending it over a beam in the gallery, and then arythymically rolling it up from the opposite side. This process made a mechanical sound that was reminiscent of a water current. The piece was visible to the viewer one section at a time, slowly fading away until it ultimately dissolves, echoing the restricted vision inherent in my image exposure and development process.
